Lofty La Paz is the capital and one of the main highlights for travellers to Bolivia. The majority of our tours take in the city on a half day tour, as well as Lake Titicaca. Uyuni is home to the world's largest salt flat, which stretches for more than 12,000 square kilometres!

Bolivia's dry season lasts from May - October and is typically considered the best time to visit. Bear in mind that much of Bolivia (including La Paz) is at altitude in the Andes mountains and nights get chilly all year round, so pack plenty of thin layers and some warmer clothing too. Bolivia generally sees little rainfall but if there is a rainy season and a "worst" time to go, then it is probably January - March.

Our Signature small group tours in Bolivia depart with a minimum of 2 travellers and the maximum group size is 16. Our Handpicked tours depart with a minimum of 4 travellers, and the maximum group size is 20.

Our tours in Bolivia use a mixture of centrally located, well-appointed 3 - 5 star hotels. You can find information about the hotels we typically use on the relevant tour page for each trip. Please note that we reserve the right to use different hotels of a similar standard if the need arises.

Airport arrival and departure transfers are included on all of our Bolivia group tours and most relevant transportation is in private vehicles.

Where necessary or practical, we also make use of public transportation including buses, trains and boats on your Bolivia tour. Your tour leader will handle the logistics so you needn't worry about missing the bus or train!

On tours where we travel across multiple countries, some internal flights are also necessary. These are included in the cost of your tour and are clearly labelled on the itinerary for each tour page.

According to the 2022 LGBTQ+ Travel Safety Index, Bolivia scores a B- rating for LGBTQ+ traveller safety, ranking 34th out of 203 countries.

Although same sex marriage is not legal, there are broad constitutional and worker protections in place for people of all sexual orientations. Hate crimes against members of the LGBTQ+ community are criminalized and 26 - 50% of consulted citizens consider Bolivia a good place to live for gay and lesbian people. There are no legal punishments for same sex relations and most trips for LGBTQ+ travellers to Bolivia are trouble-free.

The LGBTQ+ Travel Safety Index is designed to provide a good overall picture of attitudes towards the LGBTQ+ community in each country and may not reflect the experience of foreign travellers to the country.

As with most of Latin America, the tap water in Bolivia is not safe for human consumption, even in La Paz, and it can cause stomach upsets. Make sure to stick to bottled and filtered water, including for activities such as brushing your teeth. Avoid ice in your drinks and eating foods such as fresh salads, which may have been washed in unsafe water.
