Jordan tour reviews
Scoring an average traveller rating of 5 out of 5 based on 5 recent reviews — See All Jordan Reviews
We toured for 23 days through Egypt, Jordan and Israel. The tour was well structured - a great itinerary and great/good guides. Our guide in Egypt Mahmoud Ramadan as excellent. He is the main reason I would recommend OnTheGo Tours. This is my fifth trip overseas and I have had countless short tour guides. He is the best! You want to request him if touring with On The Go in Egypt.
I also thoroughly enjoyed my time in Jordan. I was looking forward to Petra but was surprised by how much I loved Wadi Rum, Wadi Mujib and the Dead Sea. This was such a varied experience and a great time. We added a few days at the beginning in Cairo and a few days at the end in Tel Aviv which I would definitely recommend. Overall this was a great trip.
On The Go took very good care of us from meeting us at the airport to the transfer to the airport at the end. Great Service.”
I cannot describe how wonderful this trip was..but I am going to try! Everything was perfect, the hotels (including the tent at Wadi Rum), the transport, the food. I mainly went to Jordan to see Petra but I ended up enjoying every single place we visited, it’s unbelievable the history that this country has and how welcoming and kind Jordanians are. The time we spent in the desert, especially at night, was fascinating, and the trekking trail at Wadi Mujib is a must do if you have at least an average level of fitness. I would also recommend to do the optional tour to the Baptism of Jesus site and the hot spring.
What made this trip even more special was our guide, Mahmoud: his passion for his country, along with his excellent English, knowledge, sharp sense of humour, and caring for our needs, was one of the best highlights of Jordan.
Expect to walk quite a lot and, if your level of fitness is below average, you may consider skipping some tours or use horse/donkey rides in Petra. However, if you can make it, I can ensure that this trip is worth every single effort. ”
Excellent Tour from start to finish!
Very easy to book and all information supplied included. ”
Frequently asked questions about our Jordan group tours
Will I see Petra and how much time will I spend at the site?
The next morning there is free time to return to Petra via al-Madras, with visits to the High Place of Sacrifice and Wadi Farasa. As two nights are spent at Petra, there is plenty of free time for you to opt for the Petra by Night experience or our Petra Kitchen add-on.
Many tour operators only spend one night in Petra on their Jordan holidays. But we want our travellers to have plenty of time to take in this unique world wonder, including the main sights and some hidden gems too!
What are your desert camps like in Wadi Rum and will I need a sleeping bag?
Inside the tents are comfortable camp beds and warm bedding, so you don't need to bring a sleeping bag on your trip to Jordan. However, you may wish to bring your own liner.
Showers and toilets are in an outhouse close by with hot running water. There's a communal area with rugs and cushions where a traditional Bedouin dinner is eaten in the evening. The camp's position at the foot of an easily-climbed rocky hill makes it the perfect spot to watch the sunset.
How much walking is required on your Jordan trips?
On tours departing between April and October you'll embark on a moderate–paced two-hour trek along the Siq Trail at Wadi Mujib. Depending on the water level this can be quite a challenging adventure as climbing is required in sections.
If you prefer to give this a miss, you can head straight to the Dead Sea after viewing Wadi Mujib from the entrance of the Siq.
What should I wear whilst visiting Jordan?
We recommend choosing cotton over synthetic materials and packing a wide-brim hat to keep your face shaded from the intense sun. For footwear, take a good pair of walking shoes for the day of guided sightseeing in Petra.
How big are your tour groups and what is the age of your travellers?
You'll find a wide range of ages on tour from those in their 20s to those in their 60s or even 70s. On average the age is around the mid-40s.
What is the standard of hotels on your trips?
What sort of transport do you use in Jordan?
Is Jordan a safe destination for travellers from the LGBTQ+ community?
According to the 2022 LGBTQ+ Travel Safety Index, Jordan scores an F rating for LGBTQ+ traveller safety, ranking 141st out of 203 countries.
Same sex marriage is not legal and there are no constitutional or worker protections in place for the LGBTQ+ community. 0 - 25% of consulted citizens consider Jordan a good place to live for gay and lesbian people. Laws prevent the discussion of pro-LGBTQ+ issues and homosexual public acts can earn 6 months in prison and a fine, although homosexuality itself is not criminalized in Jordan.
This does not mean members of the LGBTQ+ community shouldn’t visit Jordan, but precautions should be taken when travelling. As long as you use common sense, travelling in Jordan shouldn’t be a problem. We take people of all ages, races, genders and sexualities on tour and there are rarely any issues for our travellers in the destination.
The LGBTQ+ Travel Safety Index is designed to provide a good overall picture of attitudes towards the LGBTQ+ community in each country and may not reflect the experience of foreign travellers to the country.
When is the best time to visit Jordan for general sightseeing?
The months between May and August are very hot and the temperatures can be overbearing for many people but if you want to witness the celestial display of the Perseids Meteor Shower then August is when you should time your visit.
Can I visit the beach in Jordan?
Jordan has a tiny sliver of Red Sea coastline - 27 kilometres to be precise. The resort city of Aqaba is the best place to enjoy some R&R at the Red Sea coast, though of course, the Dead Sea is also a great option. We visit the Dead Sea on all of our Jordan packages and can incorporate a visit to Aqaba on a Tailor-made Jordan holiday for you.

The Best of Jordan

Petra
An essential part of a trip to Jordan, delve into the ancient history, tombs and temples in this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Most of our trips spend two nights here, so you have plenty of time to explore. Walk through the narrow Siq to the Treasury and hike the hundreds of steps to the grand Monastery.

Dead Sea
We dare you to try and sink to the bottom of the Dead Sea - it's impossible! Instead, you can float in the famously salty waters and soothe your skin with its mineral-rich mud. Our longer Jordan tours include an entire free day to relax at the Dead Sea - the lowest point on Earth.

Wadi Rum
Explore the desert scenery of Wadi Rum and spend the night sleeping under the stars in our Bedouin camp. Relax, eat delicious local food and watch the sunset from stunning sand dunes. Wadi Rum starred in the movies Dune and The Martian and it's easy to see why - it's otherworldly!

Amman
It's tempting to head straight off to Jordan's many sights, but time spent in Amman is not wasted. Modern Amman is modern Jordan, with vibrant rooftop restaurants and hip bars. Plus, there's history, ancient ruins and local culture here too, with the Amman Citadel not to be missed.

Shobak Castle
Ancient Jordan at its best! Perched dramatically on a hilltop, Shobak is one of Jordan's most important crusader castles, dating back to 1115. As impressive as the ruins themselves is the spectacular windswept location, wild Jordan at its most untamed.

Wadi Mujib
Wet and wild, canyoning Wadi Mujib isn't an experience you can forget. Between April and October it's possible to hike, swim, slip and climb through this canyon, an adrenaline-fuelled adventure in the stunning Mujib Biosphere Reserve.
